The Remmie 4 is an at-home ear camera that allows your Poppins care team to assess your child’s ears remotely — without an in-person visit. It’s easy to use once you know the steps, and we’ve got you covered. Follow the guide below to get set up and submit your child’s ear images for review.
Don’t Have a Remmie 4 Yet?
A Remmie 4 device is required for telehealth ear assessments through Poppins. If you don’t have one yet, here’s how to get it:
- Purchase the Remmie 4 at remmiehealth.com/products/remmie4
- Poppins members get 40% off — use code POPPINS40 at checkout (retail price $149, member price $90)
- Don’t have a device yet? Let your Poppins care team know and we can continue with a standard visit in the meantime
Step 1: Download the App & Set Up Your Profile
- Download the Remmie app on your phone (available for both Android and Apple)
- Open the app and register with your name and email address
- Select the Family icon → add a profile for your child → select "Poppins Medical" as your child’s primary physician
- Verify your email — you will receive a verification email after registration. This step is required before you can use the device, so check your inbox (and spam folder) right away
Step 2: Prepare the Device
- Plug the Remmie into your phone using the adaptor that fits your phone’s charging port. The Remmie draws power directly from your phone, so it must be plugged in to work.
- Press the power button on the device. You will see a notification in the app confirming it is connected.
- Clean the camera tip with an alcohol wipe before each use.
- Make sure the black speculum tip is attached to the end of the device before inserting it into the ear.
Step 3: Get Your Child Ready
This is the most important step for getting a clear image. A still child = a better view.
- Have your child watch a favorite TV show or video to keep them calm and distracted
- Lay your child on their side so the ear you’re checking faces up
- Ask another caregiver to help hold your child still if needed
- Always stop immediately if your child shows any sign of pain or significant discomfort

Step 4: Record the Ear Video
- In the app, select the ear you will be checking, then tap the "Live View" icon and hit the record button
- Gently pull your child’s ear back (for infants, pull the earlobe back and down; for older children, pull up and back) to straighten the ear canal
- Slowly insert the device into the ear canal. Use the colored guide boxes in the app to help position the device:
- Yellow box = eardrum in view — this is your goal
- Blue box = cartilage or bone — adjust your angle slightly
- Hold the device still for 10 seconds once you have a clear view, then stop the recording
- Clean the tip with an alcohol wipe before switching to the other ear — skipping this step can make the second video blurry
- Repeat on the other ear

Step 5: Submit to Your Poppins Care Team
- Tap the green button (the icon of two people) at the bottom center of the app
- Select up to 3 videos to submit
- Complete the symptom survey — only open the sections that apply to your child. Leave any non-applicable sections closed.
- Agree to the terms and conditions and tap Submit
That’s it! Your Poppins care team will review the videos and follow up with next steps.

If We Need to Connect Live
Sometimes the video isn’t quite clear enough for us to assess the eardrum — poor lighting, movement, or positioning can all affect image quality. If that happens, your Poppins clinician will reach out and ask you to join a live session. Here’s how that works:
- With your Remmie plugged in and powered on, tap the share icon in the upper right corner of the video display screen
- Select "Copy" → text the copied link to your Poppins care team
- Once our team is ready, a Poppins clinician will call you on a secure, HIPAA-compliant phone line
- Put your phone on speaker → return to the Remmie app → power your device back on → tap the share icon again
Your Poppins clinician will guide you through the rest of the session in real time.
Tips for the Best Results
- Good lighting helps — find a well-lit room before you start
- Go slow and be gentle — there is no need to push the device in far
- A calm, distracted child makes the biggest difference — timing matters
- Always clean the tip between ears for the clearest image
- If your first attempt is not great, you can try again before submitting
