What is it?
Heat rash (also called prickly heat or miliaria) is a common skin condition in babies and children caused by blocked sweat glands. It appears as small pink or red bumps and may include tiny water blisters. It often shows up in warm, humid conditions or after your child has been overheated.
Common Types
· Miliaria crystallina: Tiny, clear bumps on the skin’s surface (more common in infants)
· Miliaria rubra: Red or pink bumps with itching or prickling sensation (most common in toddlers and children)
✅ You can manage your child's Heat Rash at home when:
· Your child seems comfortable and is acting normally
· The rash is limited to areas like the face, neck, chest, or back
· There is no fever or sign of infection (pus, crusting, warmth)
· The rash improves with cooling and doesn’t rapidly spread
🏠 Home remedies for Heat Rash:
1. Cool baths: Give a cool bath (without soap) for 10 minutes, 2–3 times daily. Let the skin air dry. You can also use a cool, wet washcloth on smaller areas.
2. Keep skin cool and dry: Dress your child in loose, breathable clothing (like cotton or bamboo). Use a fan in the room during sleep. Avoid overdressing or swaddling.
3. Avoid irritants: Avoid bubble baths, fragranced soaps, ointments, or thick creams. These can block sweat glands and make the rash worse.
4. Safe moisturizers (once rash improves): After the rash clears, use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer.
